New look and
Website improvements
Earlier
this year, we changed our logo and now we have a new website
with more information and an interactive component to register
for events online. These improvements are being made to
enhance our image and strengthen our communications among
our corporate members, MBEs, and business community throughout
the region.
Additionally,
this online newsletter has been renamed “Connections” as
another way to “connect” with our audiences,
while helping to make connections and build businesses
with our members and MBEs. Please feel free to offer your
comments or suggestions. Just email vshelton@slmbc.org.

PON Makes
The Case For Supplier Diversity
The
PON (Purchasing Officers Network) Meeting that was
held on September 12th was very productive
and well-attended. The program, “Making the Business
Case for Supplier Diversity,” was facilitated
by MBE Gloria Carter-Hicks from Hicks-Carter-Hicks and
corporate member Mark Graham from Express
Scripts. Meeting
participants were divided into three groups and asked
to make the case for supplier diversity. Following
are the top six reasons for supplier diversity as developed
by all three groups:
• Supply
base should reflect customer base
• Supplier
diversity provides competitive advantage
• Supplier
diversity provides new ideas and perspectives
• Diversity
helps to build and expand supplier base
• Diversity
helps promote the local economy
• Supplier
diversity provides opportunities for cost reduction
as
well as and value added
MBE
presentations were given by Gloria Carter-Hicks of Hicks-Carter-Hicks
and Pat Woods of Specialties
International, Inc.
