Great PON Meeting
The July
18th Purchasing Officers Network (PON) meeting was a big success
as attendance continues to build. Featured speaker Dana Hill
from Peabody Energy gave an informative presentation on starting
up and enhancing a supplier diversity program. The MBE presentations
were very well-received as three member companies presented
MBEs they successfully partner with as follows:
| |
Champion
Courier |
Presented
by McCarthy |
| |
United
Technologies & Systems |
Presented
by Laclede Gas |
| |
NextGen
Information Services |
Presented
by SBC |
All corporate
members are encouraged to attend. The PON is a great way to
begin your day and to incorporate new ideas and practices
into your supplier diversity program. Mark your calendar now
for the next meeting on September 12 at Monsanto Company.
More information will be forthcoming.

Corporate
Recruiting At The Ballpark
It was
a steamy, hot and sunny day in St. Louis on July 22nd –
just perfect for an afternoon at the ballpark. This was no
ordinary “businessman’s special” for the
Council. It was all business (in the air-conditioned Laclede
Gas box!). The Council’s Membership Committee used the
game as the backdrop for networking and recruiting, and it
seems to have worked! Out of 8 at bats (potential companies),
there were 2 home runs (who signed up on the spot)!
Let’s
give a big welcome to Top Care Lawn Service
brought in by board chair Alan Kuebler of
Washington University and Coca-Cola Enterprises,
guest of Maria Ayres, division president
of Corporate Express. Additional corporate
memberships are pending. Many thanks to committee chair Tony
Trupiano of SSM Health Care and the entire membership
committee for their hard work in making this a successful
event. It’s only fitting to say, “And that’s
a winner!”

Still
Time To Apply For Supply Chain Program
The St.
Louis Minority Business Council and the Consortium for Supply
Chain Management Studies (CSCMS) from the John Cook School
of Business at St. Louis University are once again offering
a certificate program for small and medium size businesses.
To date,
22 MBEs have signed up for the program! There’s still
space left for a few more MBEs, but you must hurry. The program
begins in September.
The primary
objective of the program is to help you grow your
business by increasing customer service responsiveness
and profitability, using superior supply chain management
practices. This will help prepare you to become strategic
partners with corporations, with the opportunity
to obtain long-term contracts.
The program
will be taught by university faculty and industry practitioners
and will include lectures, exercises, case studies, guest
speakers and industry panels. The program cost is $2,000.
However, scholarships are available for SLMBC MBEs,
reducing the cost to $400 for enterprises with annual revenues
of $2 million or less and $800 for those over $2million in
revenue.
The Council
is accepting applications right now for participation in this
sought-after program. For more information, call Harry Moppins
at 314-241-1143 ext. 112.
