General Membership Meeting November 2

Steve Simms from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) is the guest speaker for the November 2 General Membership Meeting. He will discuss the rebuilding efforts on the Gulf Coast following hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the opportunities available for MBEs. He will also discuss the value of SLMBC membership and affiliation with the NMSDC.

Registration for the General Membership Meeting will start at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast and the meeting will start promptly at 9 a.m. Ironically, the program will be held in the New Orleans Room at Harrah’s Casino, 777 Casino Drive, Maryland Heights, MO 63043.

PON Meeting November 8

The next PON (Purchasing Officers Network) Meeting will be held at Monsanto, Building A on November 8, starting at 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Included on the program will be a panel discussion on MBE development. There will be a panel of five to six individuals that will discuss areas such as Attributes of successful MBEs, Key Influencers in the Selection of Suppliers, and Methods Corporations use to source new MBEs. There will also be presentations from three MBEs.

The PON is made up of supplier diversity leads, purchasing professionals, operational and tactical managers in the St. Louis region who develop action plans to effect minority purchasing. This group is committed to impacting the economic growth of the region by creating and expanding opportunities of minority vendors. The PON is sponsored by the St. Louis Minority Council.

Calling all MBEs!! Excellence Awards Gala December 1

Please join us at the annual Excellence Awards Gala at the Ritz Carlton on December 1 to honor the achievements of our outstanding MBEs and corporate members. This elegant, black-tie event will begin with a cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., dinner and the awards program at 7 p.m., and a champagne toast and dance at 8:30 p.m.

Look for your invitation in the mail and RSVP as soon as possible. Sponsorships to support the Council’s educational and development programs are still available. Don’t miss this most elegant and important event of the year.

Holiday Reception And General Meeting December 15

MBE Accomplishments

Kwame Building Group completed work as construction manager and owner’s representative for the new School of Pharmacy at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Bell’s & Associates, Inc. completed the renewal of a contract with St. Louis County Government and was awarded a renewal contract for Broker of Record services for the County for the All Risk Property Insurance Program.

Sinclair Solutions was awarded a contract for consulting services with Magellan for a federal government project.

Brenda Newberry was interviewed in the October 21 – 27 St. Louis Business Journal. The article, “Tech Firms Run Security Gauntlet to get Contracts,” discussed government contracts and the difficulty of obtaining the necessary government security clearances connected with government contracts.

Rodney Evans of Premise Communications was awarded a subcontract from TSI for SMA-TV (satellite), voice data, and a part of the fiber optic backbone installation at the new Cardinals’ stadium. SBC originally awarded the contract to TSI, who subcontracted part of the job to Premise Communications.
